Workshops give the ability to craft era related goods. These goods are needed for constructing new buildings. upgrading buildings, and researching new technologies. Each workshop provides 3 production slots with a 4th slot available for purchase with gems. The amount of goods produced by a workshop can be boosted by nearby culture sites.

There are 3 types of Workshops available to the player starting in the Bronze Age to the Roman Empire: Artisan, Stone Mason, and Tailor.
After reaching the Byzantine Era, there are three new workshop types: Scribe, Carpenter, and Spice Merchant.

A workshop is randomly assigned as the "primary" crafting type, which unlocks first, with more workshops of that type being able to be built through researching technologies.

The others workshops are assigned as "secondary" and "tertiary" crafting types, being unlocked in that respective order, with only 1 workshop of each type being able to be built.
